  • Hi Andy
For Ni-Dan grading we had to write a short thesis on Ki-ken-tai no ichi and demonstrate the the technique. When I see action photos of ippon being scored, the Kendo player’s right foot is still in the air whilst the shinai has already made contact with the men.
I’m under the impression that the stomp of the fumikomi, the strike on the men and the kiai need to happen in one count.
My question is .. if the kiai and men strike happens simultaneously while the foot is still in the air, there will be a second move or sound as the foot stomp reaches the floor….. Is that a valid strike??
    All the best
